The movie portrays the life story of Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and standup comedian.
He lives with his mother, Penny Fleck, in Gotham City. It’s a city full of crime, and severely underdeveloped. For Arthur, life seemed unfair as what he knew as “his world” is getting crazier.
He got fired from his clown job for bringing a gun to the children’s hospital. What was once taught to protect him, took away his only way of earning a living. And pursuing a career as a standup comedian proved to be Arthur’s next biggest failure.
The story ends with Arthur becoming the beacon of the revolt against the rich. He accepted his fate on the path never-ending misery and became the Joker.
Arthur Fleck finally embraced his fate as the Joker.
This movie has a lot to do with branding. The overall “feel” of the movie, the soundtracks, and the color palette. They are all consistent throughout the movie. What I like the most is the plot of the story.
The soundtrack is on point. Every. Single. Time.
The actor nailed several highlights throughout the movie. When paired up with a solid soundtrack, it doubles the ‘wow’ effect. The soundtrack enhances the storytelling as well as the mood of the scenes.
It gives a feeling of an emotional rollercoaster as it reaches the climax - the scene where Arthur comes out as the Joker. The buildup for that scene is remarkable. I can truly view the Joker as the people’s hero even though he’s a criminal.
Takeaway: Use the five senses to elevate your brand. Sometimes, music and visuals can go a long way in branding.
The color palette is consistent
The first hour of this movie is cold and dark which matches what Arthur is going through in his life. Failures, disregarded, lost.
He then found out a secret about his mother. Everything changes from that moment onwards and the storyline became intensely chaotic. He wore a red suit to embrace violence as his new life path.
Takeaway: Color psychology is very real. You can use color to alter how your audience perceives your brand.
The plot of the story is fascinating
Arthur Fleck started as a failure but ended up as a hero. His story development lives up to the suspense of the climax. The director did a great job of building up the hype for the character.
The movie shows a lot about “the other side of society”. It’s not something we see often in our everyday lives. Hence, the story is interesting for moviegoers.
Everyone loves a good and structured story.
Takeaway: Apply storytelling in your branding. It helps your audience connects and relates to your brand better.
